FUN SUMMERTIME ACTIVITIES FOR ACTIVE FAMILIES

24/10/2017

Summer is here and it’s time to shake off those cobwebs, embrace the warm weather and head outdoors to enjoy all the fun summertime activities Southern Africa has to offer. Lead by example this festive season by showing your children fun ways to be active outdoors, rather than staying stuck behind a screen. Here are a few fun summertime activities to enjoy as a family:

CANOPY TOURS

Ziplining, or canopy tours as it is sometimes called, is a superb adrenaline activity the whole family can enjoy. It involves being strapped into a harness and sliding along steel cables from platform to platform, going past waterfalls and through valleys, enjoying all that mother nature has to offer. Depending on where you go, you could zip your way through indigenous forests, over rivers and even through rocky valleys. Don’t worry – these tours are offered and facilitated by highly trained, skilled professionals who take care or participants’ safety throughout.

SUP

SUP, or ‘stand upright paddle-boarding’ is a fun activity that can be enjoyed on the ocean, lakes, rivers and more. This offshoot of surfing originated in Hawaii. Unlike traditional surfing, where the rider sits until a wave comes, stand up paddle boarders stand on their boards and use a paddle to propel themselves through the water. It’s much easier to learn than surfing and a fantastic way to give youngsters confidence out on the waves. Keep an eye out for SUP rental businesses and/or instructors in your area, and give it a go!

INDOOR TRAMPOLINE PARKS

Indoor trampoline parks are ideal for those days when it’s just too hot outside to be comfortable. Depending on where you go, you can look forward to everything from wall-to-wall interconnected trampolines, dodge-ball courts, and cube foam pits, to hydraulic slam dunk basketball hoops, battle beams, performance walls, wavy lanes and fidget ladders. Sounds epic, right? It is! Find a park in your vicinity and take the kids ASAP.

A GOOD OLD HIKE

Outdoor activities don’t have to cost you a bundle. You can simply go for a hike somewhere close to home. Pack a backpack with water and snacks, find a route that suits your family’s fitness level, slather the kids in sunscreen and off you go!

These are just a few of the fun things you can do as a family this summer to ensure that everyone stays active and energetic. Keep an eye on the blog in coming weeks and months as we share more tips and inspiration on healthy lifestyle choices for the whole family!
